AVID Schoolwide

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
AVID is a college and career readiness system implemented schoolwide at OEB to support student success. Through AVID strategies embedded across content areas, students develop skills in Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) while building the habits and mindsets needed for success in high school, college, career, and life.
In addition to schoolwide AVID practices, OEB offers the AVID Elective, a college and career exploration course designed for students who are motivated to challenge themselves academically and prepare for postsecondary opportunities.
The AVID Elective offers:
- Academic support for students enrolled in rigorous courses
- Tutorials facilitated by college tutors
- College and career exploration
- Field trips to local colleges and universities
- Guest speakers
- Leadership opportunities
- A curriculum focused on developing WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) skills
To be considered for the AVID Elective, students should:
- Demonstrate determination and a desire to excel
- Maintain a 2.0 grade point average or higher (C average or better)
- Participate in an interview with members of the AVID Site Team
The AVID Elective is designed to support students who have the potential to succeed in rigorous coursework and who are committed to preparing for college and career opportunities. Many AVID students are the first in their families to attend college, though this is not a requirement for participation.
