Meet Ms. Abbott

Cynthia Abbott directs the Octavia E. Butler Magnet Glee Club, perhaps the strongest—and certainly one of the longest-running—music programs in the Pasadena Unified School District.

In recent years, she has expanded the program to include piano and music theory instruction. She sings with the Pasadena Master Chorale and serves on its Board of Directors, overseeing the Education Program, which provides students with opportunities to rehearse and perform in Master Chorale concerts.

Ms. Abbott has served as music director for PUSD’s Summer Musical Theatre Program since its inception in 1995 and has directed numerous district music festivals. She has managed and performed in many productions with Opera of the Foothills and has also performed in several barbershop quartets. In addition, she has directed the music for South Pasadena Middle School’s musicals for more than two decades.

A graduate of Occidental College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Ms. Abbott is a recipient of the Gold Crown Award for Excellence in Arts Education from the Pasadena Arts Council.
