Spanish Dual Language Immersion

We are proud to offer the only STEAM-integrated Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program at the secondary level in Pasadena Unified School District.

Our program is based on a two-way immersion model, meaning that classrooms include both English-dominant and Spanish-dominant speakers. Students learn from and support one another as they develop proficiency in both languages. Students continue to advance their language skills by taking two or more courses in Spanish each year, including History and Spanish Language Arts.

Specialized arts and STEAM opportunities, including Musical Theatre and Orchestra, are available through after-school elective programs.

Program features include:

  • Spanish Language Arts (Grades 6–8)
  • Ancient Civilizations (Grade 6), taught in Spanish
  • World History (Grade 7), taught in Spanish
  • U.S. History (Grade 8), taught in Spanish
  • The opportunity to participate in optional after-school electives, including Orchestra and Glee Club (Choir/Musical Theatre Production)

Through these experiences, students develop bilingualism, biliteracy, cross-cultural competence, and the academic skills needed to thrive in high school, college, career, and community life.

Program Goals:

Bilingualism and Biliteracy
Students develop high levels of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills in both English and Spanish.

Academic Excellence
Students strive for academic excellence in all subject areas and meet or exceed District and California State Standards.

Multicultural Understanding
Students develop an appreciation for diverse languages and cultures, cultivate positive cross-cultural relationships, and engage thoughtfully with issues in an interconnected world.
